Traveling by plane can be a very convenient way to get around the world if everything goes just right for you; however, as we all know, what we actually plan and how things turn out in life are two different issues.
On a positive note, I remember returning back to the United States after spending a couple of weeks in Saudi Arabia providing teacher training to language instructors there. It was a wonderful experience, and after the training, I was looking forward to being back home. Before I boarded the plane, I was pleasantly surprised to find out I had enough extra flying miles to upgrade me to first class, something I wasn't expecting, but I didn't pass up the chance to ride up front for the first . . . and probably last . . . time in my life.
On the other hand, I have had my share of unpleasant experiences in flying, and on one occasion abroad, my flight was delayed for over six hours in an international airport that resulted in my missing my connecting flight once I returned to the United States, causing me to have to stay in a hotel once extra night. Spending time in an airport in another country where you don't speak the language and you don't understand the flight announcements can be mentally and emotionally challenging. I just tried to smile and count my blessings that I had a family back home that was waiting for me.
Now, these experiences are not very extreme in nature, but it is likely that you have had both your share of good and bad travel moments. Please share them with us.
Best,
Randall

Hello everyone,
ReplyDeleteI also had the experience of having a flight back home canceled because of bad weather. I was flying from Dallas, US to São Paulo, Brazil. It resulted in my missing my connecting flight from São Paulo to Rio de Janeiro. Back in Brazil I had to pay somewhat of a penalty late fee, which was a bit expensive. I wasn't really expecting that. :-(

I think fly when the inclement weather like you say, probably passenger expect announcement about cancelation or diferent changes.
ReplyDeleteI have not taken any flight yet, but I will do in near future. And I really don't want to face any problems with my flight. Thanks for sharing the useful experience and sympathise with you about the problems that you have met.

During my last trip in Menorca (one moth ago), the return flight was delayed, maybe for technical reasons..?
ReplyDeleteNo information or details were given us!
We had been waiting our flight for 2 hours at the Menorca Airport before we were boarded.
Anyway, despite the late boarding the Spanair flight was a good one.
And the Menorca island was a beautiful heaven to travel trough!
I am going to take a long journey to UK from Viet Nam for my studying. That will be a nightmare if I miss my connecting flight.Let's keep my fingers crossed and try to think about any bad situation I may have to deal with !Thanks for any other comment .That is valuable experience for me too !:)
ReplyDeleteI travel with flight from Malaysia to Australia for studies. I have been sitting flight for 7 times (7 one way). Fortunately, I haven't face any trouble for the flight. But I find that the big differences between cheap flight and expensive flight are
ReplyDelete1) the queuing time needed to check in
(there is always a long line for cheap flight)
2) the services we got in the flight.
haha
I had taken so many flights, you are bound to get some bad ones. The most annoying one would be the shortest one, too. Las Vegas back home to San Fransisco. Too lazy to take the bus back, I bought a plane ticket. The weather was bad and I waited 9 hours in the airport, with all the noise of the slot-machines for a 20 min. flight... :) But, consider the good ones - like when you are upgraded for free, when there's a great movie on board, the food is actually good, the person sitting next to you is sleeping or you have a great talk. :)
ReplyDeleteHi, I had to wait 6 hours in a local airport due that my flight has not any crew or pilot to fly the airplane, can you believe it?
ReplyDeleteBest, Alberto.
You have become like a guiding light to me. When I started a project
ReplyDeleteon similar topic I could not get enough information to carry further.

I hope to get an A+ this time. thanks

A frustrated experience for my son: when he bound for State College with connection in Toronto and Detroit, his first flight to Toront delayed due to a heartattack patient in that plane. The plane had to flight back to Clagary for rescuing the patient in a big hospital. Then the plan re-flew to Toronto. As the result, my son cannot catch up the next plane flying to Detroit. He had to stay in Toront overnight. When he landed the Detroit, he also cannot catch up the plane flying to State College of course. When he arrived at the college, he missed one day class. But he got a lot of experence in the airport.
ReplyDeletethe information of this post is very relevant
ReplyDeletefor what i am looking for, thank you so much for sharing this one

ReplyDeleteI like planes. My eanglish teacher is very smart and beautiful. She is the best teacher ever!
ReplyDeleteperfect intonation and pronunciation, you speak like a real ticket agent, much better than in our Lithuania airports ticket agents!
ReplyDeleteI have not taken any flight yet, but I surely will have some in the future. I think the flight could be delayed or cancelled because of bad weather, technical problems or political issues. I hope i won‘t have such a bad experience, but if I do, I would be grateful if airline offered me a free flight to another destination for future travel because in that way I could have another unforgettable adventure. :)

Hello, my name is Gabriele. I’m 17 years old student from Lithuania. I would like to tell you and share with you my worst travelling experience, which I had few years ago. I had a flight from Lithuania, from Vilnius airport to one of the London’s airports. It was winter, month of December, about a week before Christmas. Beginning of the flight was normal, everything at start seemed okay, but when our plane was near the London, the cabin crew warned the passengers that because of heavy snowstorm outside, the airport employees are failing to clean the runways from the slippery snow and because of that it is better to land in another airport. So after about a hour just flying in the air and doing the circles in the sky while deciding what to do, we landed in another airport which is quite far from London city. When we landed the bus was ready for us and we had to go by it for about three hours when we reached our final destination. The worst for me was that I was feeling sick, so after the journey it took some days when I felt better.
ReplyDeleteI am from india I also had a bad experience when I am returning from my native place(Guwahati ) to my work place (Chennai) because of bad weather the flight was delayed 6 hours from its current time...I have to wait in the airport but I also had a good experience like we had a awesome food in the airport then we first time purchased few goods items from the airport...
ReplyDeleteI like this activity. I had a bad experience ones I when to Philippines, I arrived late to the airport and I should wait about 6 hours till another flight rout could take me home. The good part of the story is that I meet very good people on the waiting, and I had the opportunity to know Hawaii. I learn that I should be on time always.

Hi,This is Mike.
ReplyDeleteI want to shared my bad fight experience which happened in 2015. It was delayed and I was arranged to sleep in a hotel with a passenger for 4 hours. We were informed that we could go back to airport terminal and board our plane. This made me exhausted because I had to arrived at my destination in the only morning instead of in the evening. So I had so little time to rest.
thanks for your watching
BR
Mike
Hi,
ReplyDeleteThe local airport is a little one so I just want to say that i have never had bad experiences with the flights i've took in the past. Everything has been the way it has to be. I think it is easy for me to travel by plane since i only take a couple of carry-on bags with me that i can put in the overhead compartment.
For that same reason i do not have to spend my time in lines. When you only have carry-on bags is possible to make the check in via internet giving you more time to arrive at the airport. Since you checked in via internet you can walk directly to the departure gate where your boarding pass would be asked.
Regards.
Airport announcements-my idea is that there are key words to listen out for to summarise the announcement. Airports can be very noisey and distracting. The weather has caused a delay, there will be a different gate to go to for departure and a free trip if you are willing to wait. It was interesting that after hearing the announcement several times, the message became much clearer! Much like learning.
ReplyDeleteHi, this is Athal from Mexico,
ReplyDeleteI have had some stressful but exiting experiences at the same time. For example, one day I was travelling from China to Russia. The flight itinerary was as follows: from Beijing to Ekaterinburg, and then from Ekateringburg to Moscow. The first flight was without any hassle, but in the second flight is when the interesting part of the travel started. Firstly, we had only like 1 hour to transfer flights, so we could not afford to waste even 1 minute. To our bad luck, we got delayed by an airport staff saying that we had luggage overweight and that we had to pay an expensive fee. Fortunately, we were able to convince him to let us pass through and we were able to go on in our way to the boarding gate. When we finally got to there, there was nobody. Everyone had left. Suddenly a staff member appeared with a radio and told us in Russian to wait outside facing to the landing zone. It was very cold outside, and then a car came by and picked us up and brought us to the airplane to board it. We were the last ones but we made it. Even though this was frustrating, now we can remember that experience and laugh that we were so lucky.
Hi, This is Thu Hong from Vietnam,
ReplyDeleteTo be completely honest, I have never experienced a flight. But for me, the most frustrating part when taking air travel would be flight cancellation. There would be a host of reasons for the issue like bad weather conditions or terrorist attacks, and it's difficult for an airport to minimise these issues.
I'm going to board a flight to Thailand for a trip in May this year, so I hope my very first flight is smooth and nothing bad happens. To gain this, I think I have to check the weather patterns in advance and get to the airport 2 hours earlier my departure because I learn that once in a while, the security lines aren't bad but they're sometimes really bad and you never know what you can expect.
I live in a country where travel to any part of it, it´s expensier than travel to another country. That´s sad, but I´m thiking on travel Euroe this year, because travel to the souther part of my country is more expensive. That´s crazy
ReplyDeleteI have only one bad experience. My flight was late night and it delayed until morning. It was very uncomfortable not sleep and wait.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I have never got any good or bad experiences for flying. I think it might happened in the future, but who knows?
ReplyDeleteI had a stressful last year. My aunt and I were looking forward to being back home from St.Petersburg to Kazakhastan. When we arrived at internation airport that our flight was through Moscow. Aunt was dazed 'how through Moscow?! That's a mistake! I have tickets on my hands direct flight to Kazahstan' Unfortunately, we had to bought new tickets to new distination and godness knows what would have happend if we hadn'd had extra money. We had been waiting our flight for 3 hours at the airport before we were boarded. When we successfully back home aunt complained on travel agency and it had turned out that flight was altered by women cheater and sold our tickets to other people. She stole around $140 and we had got only half via the police.
ReplyDeleteI haven't try travelling by plane yet. But i hope it's happens to me soon. And then i'll definitely write about my fist good or bad flight moment.
ReplyDeleteA lot of times I had have bad experiences on airplanes journeys, mostly in my country where flights used to delay between 2 to 8 hours due to a Communism and lack of airplane parts, frozen fares to airlines, forcing them to offer a bad service experience...I hate Communism, destroys everything.
