The Internet: Does it really help students?

Although we often view the Internet as the superhighway to information, one might wonder if too much information---or at least certains types of content---isn't providing us with better quality information in the end. For example, many students use the Internet---and Google---to find relevant details for papers they may be writing for their classes; however, because anyone can publish and copy on the Internet, it is very hard to decifer between accurate sources and just plain junk.

So, in what ways do you feel that the Internet can help students in the studies, and what challenges are students faced with as the try to navigate the vastness of the World Wide Web?

Hello everyone,

One thing that I've always done when looking for information on the Web is ckeck to make sure it comes from a reliable source.

Copying on the Internet is another issue we have to learn how to deal with. I always tell my students not to forget to mention where they got an idea from nor mention the author's name. I think it's ok to do that (copy ideas) as long as they expand on them - using their own ideas.
Looking forward to reading other posts,

Hello everyone and Randall.
Students can get much knowledge and learn how to learn over the internet. They realize that there are many variations among goods, books, thoughts, and values.
But they and I also don't know where we can get valuable blogs, and websites. It takes them much time to find contents they want.So it is good for them to exchange information of good websites with their friends.
And they can be deceived by wrong information. Not to be cheated, they should choose to enter websites which is made with responsibility.
I recommend them homepages of newspaper companies.

In class, not only ask students to deliver paper report, but ask them to present their own reports in brief way. Then, the smart teacher if I can say that should be able to judge: "does the internet really help those students".

Internet revolutionized our way of communication and learning..It changed everything to the extent that we may call it " ─░nternet Age". However internet is very usefull to people, ─▒t has some adverse affects in learning too.For instance, internet is available everyone so everyone can put datas on it whether it is scientific or not! So it is likely that we might run into some information which is not true.As humanity we should do something to impede internet from turning into a data trash...

I think there are a lot of methods used to protect our environment. One of the simplest one is to collect waste surrounding our living places.
Firstly, We can collect waste-paper instead of throwing it out. This makes the environment to be cleaner. Moreover, collecting waste-paper for recycling paper brings many benefits. First benefit is to decrease cutting down trees in order to keep healthy environment for animals. Second benefit, also imporant, is to decrease cost for produce paper. These are benefits for collecting waste-paper, but to do these, all people need to have good awareness and sense of responsibility.
Secondly, we should collect all kinds of solid waste and classify them into specific kinds. This helps save much time and effort as well as power to resolve them.
In short, I believe that,if each person has awareness more, our living environment will become fresher, even thought we only need to do simple tasks as I talk.

Hi Pals and Randall,

Internet plays vital role in people's life. The most obvious reason for people to use the internet is to gain information in order to solve daily problems. Regrettably, most people misused the internet for several purposes for instance pornography, cheating and gambling. These issues are literally crucial in modern lifestyle as a result, a quite number of people are becoming compulsive internet user. In essence, students need to control themselves over the use of internet and it is 'tougher nut to crack' matter among people recently.

Hello everybody:

The answer for the question is yes. I think the Internet help students and what is more it helps everyone. Although it is true that there are a lot of junk information on the internet, it is true that you can get an alternative point of view as well. I mean, the main channels of TV, are all almost the same. They almost talk about the same topics. They want you to be unhappy to buy more unnecessary things. And this is because the media get the money from big business which want to increase their benefits.

On the internet you can find websites with a free points of view. And that is a lot better. You only have to be clever and use your common sense to choose the right places to looking for information.
