National Flags: Celebrating Special Events

The national flag of any country often represents the values and beliefs of the country. So what about your flag? What does it symbolize to you? On which specific holidays and occasions is your national flag put on display? Do homes display the flag outside or so you only see it at schools or government buildings?

Share your ideas.

I guess I live in a country where everyone says they love it and are proud of being Brazilians but they never seem to show their love for it in action. There are no flags of our country on display at schools or outside houses. I think the only moment I see our national flag on display almost everywhere is every four years during the World Cup.

In China, you can see national flags at schools, railway station, and airdrome, government buildings etc. you can see national flags in everywhere at the National day, many people take national flags on hand at outside, put on car, windows of home. Like as red sea ocean, I like this sweet and warm atmosphere.

The Chinese national flag is rectangle in red with one big five the Cape star and four small five the Cape star, these five Cape star in yellow have representative. Red symbol revolution, the star assumes a yellow, meaning the Chinese nation as yellow human race. Five five the Cape star symbolize Chinese people to solidify greatly

I am from Viet Nam, a country in South East Asia. My nation has a red flag with a yellow star in the middle. We display our flag on every important festival or event such as the Independent Day, National Day,etc. The flag is a sacred symbol of each nation. I feel very proud when I see our flag flutters on the shoulder of our athletes or the best students who have just reached certain international prizes.

i think that every country celebrate there country's flag because it is there country but some people do not want to celebrate there country's flag because they want to be seperated and form there own country and that kind of stuff eg in USA every body celebrates because they think that they are the superpower and its true........

Our flag is white and red. There are a crescent moon and star on the flag. The ground-colour is red.It smybolizes blood of Turkish soldiers who died in the Turkish War of Independence. The white crescent moon and the star symbolize silhouettes of reflection of moon and star to blood of soldiers.
You can see our national flag everywhere such as schools, government offices in my country because it is very important for us,it has a deep story and meaning.Everywhere is red in our national days.

In Haiti my family celebrates Independence Day. This day everybody gets dressed in red and blue, the same colors that are in the flag. And in my family we eat soup on January 1st. I think that there are other areas which celebrate it but in different ways and days; however we have the same holiday celebration.

In my country, China, the Spring Festival is popular everywhere. The Spring Festival has different dates every year. It's the traditional Chinese calendar. The Spring Festival is a special festival. We have about 20 days to stay at home for preparing our food. So, it's like the holidays. In these days, we go shopping, buy new clothes and so on. In addition, we can go to relatives' homes or visit other places. At night, the air is filled with the sound of bursting firecrackers and fireworks. Then, we prepare many foods for dinner. We enjoy eating and talking. We are happy together. If you come t omy country, you will like it here. After the Spring Festival, we will grow up one year.

oh yeah, i'm from Vietnam. i'm very proud of my nation and also the national flag. although the national flag is very simple and it includes an yellow big star in red large background, i see it very beautiful. Its reflects high values, the red symbolize blood of people who sacrifice themselves to the nation's sovereignty and independence, the only yellow star symbolize the only nation's party is Communist Party which leads all Vietnamese in social, political and economic activities. And, all Vietnamese respect it, the task of displaying the flag in front of house become their volunteer in important days, such Tet holiday, Independence day, Ho Chi Minh's birth day... and special days that is to response national events
