National Flags: Celebrating Special Events

The national flag of any country often represents the values and beliefs of the country. So what about your flag? What does it symbolize to you? On which specific holidays and occasions is your national flag put on display? Do homes display the flag outside or so you only see it at schools or government buildings?

  1. I guess I live in a country where everyone says they love it and are proud of being Brazilians but they never seem to show their love for it in action. There are no flags of our country on display at schools or outside houses. I think the only moment I see our national flag on display almost everywhere is every four years during the World Cup.

  4. I am from Viet Nam, a country in South East Asia. My nation has a red flag with a yellow star in the middle. We display our flag on every important festival or event such as the Independent Day, National Day,etc. The flag is a sacred symbol of each nation. I feel very proud when I see our flag flutters on the shoulder of our athletes or the best students who have just reached certain international prizes.

  8. In Haiti my family celebrates Independence Day. This day everybody gets dressed in red and blue, the same colors that are in the flag. And in my family we eat soup on January 1st. I think that there are other areas which celebrate it but in different ways and days; however we have the same holiday celebration.

The Spring Festival is a special festival. We have about 20 days to stay at home for preparing our food. So, it's like the holidays. In these days, we go shopping, buy new clothes and so on. In addition, we can go to relatives' homes or visit other places. At night, the air is filled with the sound of bursting firecrackers and fireworks. Then, we prepare many foods for dinner. We enjoy eating and talking. We are happy together. If you come t omy country, you will like it here. After the Spring Festival, we will grow up one year.

  11. oh yeah, i'm from Vietnam. i'm very proud of my nation and also the national flag. although the national flag is very simple and it includes an yellow big star in red large background, i see it very beautiful. Its reflects high values, the red symbolize blood of people who sacrifice themselves to the nation's sovereignty and independence, the only yellow star symbolize the only nation's party is Communist Party which leads all Vietnamese in social, political and economic activities. And, all Vietnamese respect it, the task of displaying the flag in front of house become their volunteer in important days, such Tet holiday, Independence day, Ho Chi Minh's birth day... and special days that is to response national events
