Friendly Dental Care: Has that been your experience?

It seems to me that no matter where I go, most people have some concern, fear, and anxiety about visiting a dentist. Going to a movie? No problem. Eating out at a nice restaurant? A piece of cake. However, going to a dentist, even for a routine cleaning, is like walking through a pool of snakes for some people.

But, what about you? Do you have any concern or worries about visiting a dentist? Have you ever had a painful (physically, mentally, or financially) experience that makes going to the dentist unpleasant?

Share your experiences.

  1. I believe that many people are not just worried about the (physical) pain they may feel while seated on the dentist's chair. In a way, what really scares people off is that they don't ever want to hear that one of their teeth (especially the front ones) may have to be pulled out. This has many implications in our social life owing that we're judged all the time by the way we look. Even though looks can be deceiving, first impression seems to be more important in a social event. What do you guys think?

  5. Well, it's really scaring, to say the least.
I've never felt that physical pain, but whenever I have to pay a visit to the dentist's, I don't feel myself comfortable at all. It's frightening, isn't it?
    Bye for now,

  6. A toothache is one of the worst problems. An earache comes second. Maybe because it goes straight to the head. I think the sound of the drill deters me from going. And the knocking and scraping inside my mouth. But they seem to do a better job than I do at home.
After several delays, when I finally get around to the dentist, I find that I should have gone earlier. Then I make up my mind to visit her regularly. But it never happens.
I think if we want to avoid the dentist, we should rinse our mouth after every meal, massage our gums once a day, brush at night....at least.

  9. Although I brushed my teeth twice a day,and rinse my mouth up to five times a day ,I always feel on edge when visiting a dentist because ,in my opinion ,the dentist is strict towards one of us he'll tell you straight away what to do or what you shouldn't do, contrary to your GP who sympathise with you all the time ,and you have to pay if you fail to attend your appointement.

  12. Personally, when I go to the dentist, I mind the cost because it changes from one dentist to another. I don't know if it's like that in the United States, but in Europe, this situation is quite difficult to be in. I used to have a dentist but she has recently retired. So far, I've been paying through the nose for minor treatments that were inexpensive with my former dentist. As a result, I don't have any permanent dentist now. I just go here and there, but it really bothers me because I would very often see my dentist for check ups, and now, I don't see a dentist so frequently.
As far as the drill is concerned, I think I've never been afraid of it. You just have to understand that it is used for your own good.

  13. I'm from Japan.

Going to a dentist brings me a lot of problems. When they examine my tooth, they sometimes pushed too hard, therefore, it gives me a lot of pain. Because of it, I'm always tense while they are checking my tooth. It also makes me feel so nervous and exhausted all the time I'm in a Dentit. The biggest problem is their cost. Depending on type of insurance, though, some insurance don't cover dental-care. It would way more cost you surprisingly. So going to dentist is pains in the ass! haha.

    Thanks.

  14. Friendly dental care is something which I have never encountered in my lifetime. Perhaps it is because dental care area really lack enthusiasm and passion in my origin country. Nevertheless, the people who are working in this particular field shouldn't be forgotten; they are mainly responsible for providing you with environment and atmosphere where one can even enjoy visit to the dentist wherever a person lives. If you confront any negative emotions or fears it means that you should consider if you have made right choice choosing going to this specific dental practitioner. I suggest that you should choose once and choose wisely. At last, physical pain is experienced frequently and sound of drilling is always associated with dreadfulness of visit to the dentist which still gives me shivers every time i think about it.

  21. i think everything is really not scaring themselves in dentists'room. our feeling is due to we image and think about them ourselves which don't happen in reality. so if you must to go to the dentist, you should make your comfortable spirit

  22. I think that it isn't so good experience, but its necessary to do. I had to do a cirurgy once, I was scared, but the dentist was very good. I didn't have a problem. But, if I have to do it again, I think I'll be scared like before.

  25. 3 years ago, I had gone dentist for wisdom teeth.
and then I thought I have never experienced the pain before.
besides, the cost of my treatment was too expensive for me.
I was student in university and worked my way through cafe for a living.
of course I hate sounds and smells of dentist.

  26. Apart from the pain, I think that the most scaring part is to be sitted with the mouth wide open because it is a very vulnerable possition.

  27. I think that the only time that I went to a dentist was on my childhood, because my parents told me that it was an obligation! So, I do not like to go to a dentist because the sound related to the treatment is very scary and the feeling that I have when I go to a dentist is that someone is trying to let an hole in my teeth, and it is not good!
So, the only thing that I can do is brush my teeth correctly to do not have problems with them...

  28. Well, my experience with dentist is not as pleasant as lots people think. I had to wear tooth niece for almost 2 years and it cost my mom as same amount as a motobike. But thank goodness, this happens a way long time ago so I don't mind it anymore.
