Living Expenses: Should adult children pay rent?

Every culture and family has its own expectations on the responsibilities and duties of children who are "adults", that is, people generally over 18 years of age, particularly for those who are living at home. If an adult children, let's say, 23 years old is working full time, but still lives at home, do you think the person should pay rent to his or her parents? Why or why not? Share your opinions on the topic, including any values and beliefs of your culture that explain your answer.

  1. I think parent-children
relationships is more than a deal.In my culture, parents always take care of their children even when they are more than 23 years old and visa versa.
If parents were old and lived in children's home, should they pay rent to their children?
In my opinion, they are a family and a family have responsibilites against each other in every conditions and situations.
This idea is really strange in my culture. The relationship is more important than financial issues for us.Our parents takes care of us no matter what age we have and either does children.

  2. Traditionally, the way of Chinese, children always are children no matter how old they are.Parents take care of their sons and daughters which is as usual and common as the child takes money from parents in order to have fun.
But, I prefer adult should pay rent to his/her parents in order to be a mature and resposibility person. It is important that learning how to be an adult, not to be "adult children". Parents should accompany with their children and teach them how to be indenpent because the children will be the parents in the near future. The next generation will come. The young generation should have someone as their role model and have someone helps them face the challenge in the real lives.
Take living expenses for example, if adult children paid rent to parnets, they should understand how to deal with their money and learing how to spent their money in daily lives. In addition, the children might know how to invest money to make more money to suppoet themselves. They have to work-hard and pay for everything if tbey desire to enhace their quality of living. Eventually, it is a good way and worthy to teach children to be independent and pass on parents' intelligences to children.

  3. i think thye dont have to pay rent.because however they are adult children, in parents opinion they are still their little child.and i think most parents cant get pay rent from their children.but they have to help parents buying some things for home.because they are living in this home.they have to take care for it.and it s not fair to spend all of their money by theirselves

  4. I think that they don't have to pay rent. Becouse they are living in there home. But if they are workink and don't whant to move from there perents house they should helo there perents. Like cooking, buying some things form the home. Becouse they are living together and it's responsible. And it's not fair if they are working and they are just shopping and spending money from nothing. And there perents are working all the time and buyng some thing from the house just anole.
