Budget Travel: How to travel and where to stay?

If someone were traveling through your country or area, what travel tips and suggestions would you give them to save money and still have a great time? From my experience, staying at a youth hostel can be a way to save money on lodging and meet people at the same time. One Website that can help you find youth hostels around the world is www.hostels.com. This site lists places around the world and contains pictures and reviews of each place.

So, what other suggestions do you have for people traveling in your country? Share your ideas.

  1. I like traveling with trains.Because of being able to relax, and don't have to care about traffic jam.
In Japan, one of the tastey reason.Buying various kinds of"box lunch".

I think it's good your idea with using "youthhostel". It's worth staying such as inexpensive accomodations though, for me, I prefer puting up at places who I know.

  2. I just came back from traveling in Spain. Hostels are a very good option to stay in. For food, I went to the market and bought fruits, snacks, bread, cheese, etc. I would prepare sandwiches so that I did not have to spend money at lunch. If you are traveling in winter, there's no need for a refrigerator, just leave food outside the window.

  3. Staying at youth hostels is also a good way of saving money and meeting people (especially other backpackers) here in Brazil. However, I'd strongly recommend those who come to Brazil that they get to know some locals before coming to a cosmopolitan city such as Rio de Janeiro. They know how to get around town and where it's safe to go at night.

  4. In my country, Taiwan, a small but beautiful island, it usually only takes 7 to 8 hours driving from the northest to the southest. We have trains running along the east and west coasts. In big cities, such as Taipei and Kaoshiung, you can take subway to many popular places. Although small cities don't have convenient transportation system as capitals, the locel governments usually provide shuttle bus running at scenic spots. So I would still highly recommend taking mass transportation if you are not familiar with routes.
As for places to stay, I also think that "youthhostel" is a good choice to consider. Although you might need to share a room with more than 4 people even more depending on how much you want to pay, staying in a hostel could be very ecnomical on your limited budget for the trip and it has a lot of chances to know backpackers from different countries.

  5. to me, youthhostel is good experience to meet and share things with the other foreigners.
i used to go in once, it was cool when we arrived but i should notice that some strangers are intimidating. xD so to engaged a discussion is not really easy. ^^
however i still think it's a pretty good idea. i met a japanese girl named Ayumi and she was waiting for her host family in London in this youthhostel. she talked about her culture, her journeys around England, the USA etc.
i envisage to retun to London for one summer and i decide with a friend to get a seasonal work to finance our trip and our visitings.
our purpose is to have fun together while learning and practising English and to meet people. i suppose the first days we'll do some "bento" (box lunch) and sandwiches because the food oversea is so expensive, especially in England.
for now i'm saving money for out next trip. =D

  6. I live in a small province and Ihave never gone to other country. But i have ideas about this matter.
I think the first thing we shoud do to prepare for our trip is discovery clearly the country we want arrive. Bring enough money , ticket, etc.
    I lke travelling by train.but i
think it is difficult to know which train to go. So I may go on foot.It will be more convenient if I lost and I have sightseeing.
Staying ina youthhostel is a good idea. But If I have enough money I will stay in a hotel.

  8. Travel in China,if you want save money. From my experience, you'd better stay at youth hostel like Ru Jia Kuai Jie,that had opened spread all over the country and where is clean and safe,no one (like some girl) bother you. If you want have good time for the journey in some city,i suggest you getting around the city by bicycle.you can know the culture by talking with the boong and eating what they eat, that's really interesting. And of course, plane is the best if your destination is on others city.In addition, some popular travel organization like Sanfo club is welcome ,you not only can get many professional help , but also you can make a lot friend who have same interest like you

  9. Hi I'm Jin from Japan. It was a big trouble for me to ride a subway to get to my destination easily in NYC. I would have lost badly if my host sister had not accompanied me. To tell the truth, I really like to self-travel and explore the unknown places on my own so I walked alone in NYC for my frist time to go to New York.

  10. In our town C-Train is a good choice for a trip in the city, but C-train doesn't service all over the city. Bus is the second good choice for travelling. We can know the next bus arrival time to a certain station by telephone to a center.

  11. i like traveling with trains from one city to another one.if we have trip in a city. i would like to travel by subway or my foot. if the transfortation system is convinced enough, you can save much time underground.you also can avoid the traffic jam just like at HKG. if you have a plan to vist a histroicl city, i think traveling by your foot would be the best choose.

  13. Traveling in the Philippines can be an enriching experience. You get to know friendly people and experience a unique culture. But, just like traveling into another country, you have to take important things into consideration also. It will be good to read more about the food, places, people, customs and other aspects Filipino culture. It is also equally important to use sound judgement and trust your gut when deciding on things. Trusting people you don't know without using your gut and head will surely spell trouble. So, you can enjoy the trip by being kind and wise:)

  14. If you want to visit Taiwan, don't worry too much about how to travel or where to stay. In Taiwan, you can take Mass Rapid Transit in major cities (Taipei and Kaoshiung), visit every place by train, or take high speed train if you'd like to save your travel time.
As for overnight accommodation, there are lots of B&B near scenic spots for choosing, and it won't cost a lot of money. Also, host of B&B is usually very kind and friendly.

  15. My idea's are: to buy tickets online before trip (if it's oversea travel), plane reservations are usefull for your purse, commonly they have great discounts! Second advise from me for saving your belongings :) is do not show off and stay in cheap motels and hostels, the best variant if you have friend from the place where are you going for and to stay... From the other hand if you are rich and have sea of money, don't save them and care about it - money are for spending!

  16. For traveling to my country,Iran,it depend on which city do you choose to live. For example,if you travel to the north of iran which has a great nature,it is beteer to rent a house instead of a hotel. It is cheaper. If you want to go tehran or some big cities like shiraz or esfahan that have a lot of traditional places you ought to stay at hotel.Hotels in my country are not luxurious, but it is cheaper than other country.plese check the weather when you want to come Iran.some cities are extremly hot at the summer, and some are very cold in winter
