Freedom: What does it mean to you?

The word "freedom" might have different meanings to different people. Personally, I enjoy the freedoms I enjoy of being able to express my personal views in public and the freedom to disagree with local and national political leaders if I feel policy needs to be changed. I also enjoy being able to walk down the street and enter into any church---even if it isn't of my own faith---and talk freely and learn from people of other religions whether I agree or disagree with their beliefs.

So, what does freedom mean to you? Please share your ideas.

  1. it is a human being state where people have the opportunity to do whatever they want without restrictions, however freedom is not supposed to affect anybody in his performing. freedom is a way of living without society damages which makes people prisioner in a world of appearence.

  2. Hello Randall and everyone,

Freedom of speech will always come first on my list. The second one is the freedom of going anywhere I want. In Brazil, there are some places where only a given group of people are "allowed" to go. I think this is ridiculous. Everyone should be allowed to go anywhere they want regardless of their social background, color of their skin or religious background. Diversity should be the norm. We must learn how to live in a "hybrid" world.

  3. Freedom is one of my favorite words...)) For me this is first of all emotional expression. I do it with the help of dance. Do you remember Madonna - "when I dance I feel free" )) This is exactly about me )) In such moments I feel absolutely independent! )I feel as if I'm not in this world so there is no problem and my mind is free.

And of course this is freedom of movement. Very often we can't go somewhere we want just because our relatives or people we love. For me it's a problem as I like travel alone, meet new people, try new activities. When I leave them I feel guilt and blame myself.

I'm not saying here about freedom of thought because I believe we are all free in our mind.

My attitude to freedom may seem to be naiv but what's the object of complicating the things?)

  4. I think life isn't a movie.
Everybody think about freedom as the possibility to do anything. But i don't think so. Maybe its foolish but i think freedom is soo relative. Everyone have the freedom to do something...but alot of people live their life without profit their freedoms...so sometimes i think that also if you don't have nothing, also if in your country you can't say or show your opinion, maybe you know better the freedom meaning...and nobody can take away from you.
    Everyone can be free...
ps: sorry for my english :/

  5. Most people equate freedom with personal choice, which means that I have the ability on some level to shape my own future or "destiny"
