One of the most interesting points of US history is the Pony Express Trail which was a means of carrying the mail across part of the United States by horse. Although not a typical way to see the trail, there is an ultramarathon that follows part of this trail. I ran part of this recently, and you can see the beauty yourself here:

As you may know, my wife and I live in a relatively small town in the mountains in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. There is a lot of greenery here and beautiful places to see. What local extreme sports fans enjoy doing most here is rock climbing (with their bare hands!!!). To me, one of the most beautiful mountains in Rio is the God's finger. Here's a link to it:
