Scary Moments in Your Life

Everyone has probably had scary experiences in your life that changed them, in some cases for the better. Personally, I have a slight fear of heights, and last year, I climbed to the top of a mountain called Lone Peak near my house. The mountain isn't that tall (about 11,000 feet), but the last 300 feet to the top requires great care and hands-on moves with a lot of exposure. In other words, one slip and your gone. I climbed the mountain twice in about a month's time, but the first time, I didn't have the courage to climb 15 more feet to the top. At the same time, I knew my limitations, so I was satisfied with what I did. However, a month later, I climbed the mountain again and reach the very top, as seen in this picture. This experience helped me conquer some of my fears, but it also taught me not to take undue risks: you should do what you feel comfortable in life and just be satisfied with small accomplishments.

So, what about you? Share a scary experience and what you learned from it.

  1. In my country, Iran, there are lots of amazing sightseeings. One of them is "Alamoot Castle".This castle belonged to one of Iranian brave warriors who fought with Arabians. He lived in the castle with his soldiers inside a mountain where the weather was and is so harsh today. The castle is consists of three floors, and the most important part is on the top floor which is on the top of the mountain and for reaching it, you have to pass 100-300 stairs.Passing 300 stairs are really breath-taking. After these stairs, archeologists built another stairs that take you to the top and main part of the castle. But, they are made of vertical pipes and horizontal woods. This construction also was parallel with the mountain. In my opinion, these stairs were really dangerous and when you stand on one of the stairs, the city is like a point,so it is really really high. After passing 300 stairs and got closer to the top of the mountain , I faced with these horrible stairs and I thought if I wanted to continue or not, because I really wanted to see the third floor of the castle where the brave warrior lived and fought. Finally, I decided to go on and I tried not to look at under my feet and just look ahead and go.After a while, I arrived on the 3th floor and I was amazed by the scenery and the castle. There was a canal and a fountain at top of the castle, I saw bedrooms , kitchen and storage rooms.I was really proud of myself and gain so much confidance.

  2. i am not afraid of height. The first difficult thing of mine was the time when i had to stand in frond of crowd and presented somethings. At that time, i felt scare, i was afraid of making mistakes as well as the way people staring me.
It was difficult to overcome it. Standing there, i heard nothing except the voice of my heart beating so fast. i whispered with my self: "okie, I could do, listen, look, an keep calm. You will survive" open my eyes, listen my voice (not my heart), and consume that I were trying to explain to my friend. And I did it.I know i pass my limitation. I knew i should be braver.
