Home Remedies: What do you do in your country?

Many people dislike running to the doctor for medicine to cure common ailments or sicknesses, and thus, they rely on traditional home remedies to help them feel better. For example, for a common cold I had one time, someone mixed up some lemon, garlic, and honey in boiling water, and I drank in to help relieve congestion. Fortunately, it seemed to work. So, are they home remedies specific to your family, country, and culture? Write about any home remedies to the following problems (or any other you can think of):

  • back pain,
  • bad breath
  • colds
  • diarrhea
  • fever
  • insect bites
  • insomnia (sleeping problem)
  • nosebleeds
  • sore feet
  • sunburn
  • stuffy nose

  1. Hi, I'm from Russia. In the case of cold we usually use preserves (raspberry, strowberry, garden strawberry or honey) with hot tea, especially in the evening, before you go to sleep.
In the case of diarrhea theres is one special remedy - vodka with salt. It's power weapon, but it helps. If you don't like such radical method then strong black tea is more preferable. But you must drink it on an empty stomach.

I am from Ecuador, in my country the medical care is personalize,in comparison whith others countries the attention is a lot of technology. In Ecuador The best attention is the private attention, the patient must to pay much money for a good attention and go at doctor's office or hospital without to consider the levels of attention.
I think that to be missing more education in health at the population.
    Thanks for you time

That is usually too, here in Colombia we have the similar problems so a lot of people prefer home remedies for common problems, for example for cough you should drink water with lemon and raw cane sugar, take a rest; for a kick you can put a piece of potato on the part affected.

      Regards.

  5. I guess I'm one of these people who dislike going to the doctor's. I'd rather take some home medicine instead.
When I'm hoarse, for instance, I boil some water with lemon and salt and then let it get warm. When it's warm enough, I gargle it a few times. Well, it really helps.

Also, dates (Arabian fruit from palm trees) are very good for everything. We even put vicks on our chest when we have a cold. If you want something for everything, just eat murrah, which is "magical" and heals everything.

  33. Thanks, Randall! I like your video and your advice on treating a cold. I have heard that eating fresh raw garlic is an excellent way to improve our health. I have tried it several times when I felt I was about to get a cold. After eating several cloves of fresh raw garlic, I felt much better. I peeled and crush three or four cloves of garlic, mixed them with olive oil, and put them on bread. It was delicious, and it also made the cold go away. (I brushed my teeth after eating the raw garlic so that it did not make my friends and family go away, too.) ;) :)

  34. We are Saudi university students. For a sore throat, cough, or fever, we recommend first mixing lemon and honey in hot water. After that, you can drink chicken soup for fevers. Second, you have to drink orange juice. After that, you must stay home and stay in bed--you shouldn't drink cold water. When you have a fever, you should put ice and water and put it on your head with a cloth. You should go to the doctor if these remedies don't work. Try kapsah--it's not a remedy but it's delicious. Regards, Saudi students

  43. To get rid of flatulence i recomend you to take two enteric coated peppermint capsules three times daily. Peppermint kills bacteria that cause bloating and relaxes gastrointestinal muscles for smoother, spasm-free digestion. The enteric coating prevents capsules from opening in the stomach and increasing discomfort by causing heartburn and indigestion. The peppermint releases and goes to work lower in the gastrointestinal tract, where gas-plagued people need it most. One on my friends said this remedy and i hope that is your help. :)

First, we recommend you to drink chamomile tea to relieve the paint in your stomach and also you can try to drink mint tea without sugar.

Second you can try to drink some healthy shakes like: pineapple, a half of one lemon, cucumber, and a piece of celery. That's going to help your digestive system because it is going to clean your colon.

Finally, if your pain doesn't stop or is harder, you must go to the drugstore and talk with a specialist about your ailment.
