School Uniforms: A good idea?

Many schools around the world require students to wear uniforms; however, there different opinions on the benefits they have for both students, parents, and schools. What do you think? Is it a good idea to require uniforms, or should students and parents be able to decide what children wear? Why or why not? Share your ideas.

  1. I think according to the situation on my context and my country.
I work in a public school in Cartagena Colombia. in the public schools the students are poor, their families don't gain much money and some of them don't work and for this reason i agree with school uniforms. it's a good idea for the parents because they don't have to buy many clothes to their children...nor the new fashion.
Other reason is that the teenagers like to use clothes not appropriate for the situation.

  2. Well, today in my English class, we have just discussed about this topic. Most of my classmates chose to wear casual clothes. But actually, I wish I could wear my school uniform everyday, just like some of my friends. Kinda strange!Because now I don't need to do this. Students have to focus on thier study, there's no need to spend a lot of time on choosing those fashion clothes. It's not worthy to do that. What else, the school uniform is a symbol of the school itself. It shows the tradion of one school. So it's unique and special.

  3. wll,I am a student and when I was a child and I went to primari school.I was disagree about wearing uniform and I said mom that why should I wear uniform? But now I am studying at the high school and I understand that uniform is very good because when we wear uniform the people understan that we are students and when we wear uniform we understand that our uniforms show that we are students from special school(u know each school has special uniform)and we should be polite and respect rules and wearing uniform and the another school's rules r our first rules and we should respect rules to become a great person for our social in future...

  5. Uniforms represent the school and students. In Hong Kong, all secordary schools require students wear uniform but, universities do not. It shows that college students students have enough ability to manage problems but high school students do not. Maybe this is my country culture, but I think that is reasonable.
When I was high school student, I did not like my school uniforms because they were old fashion. But I knew that was not a reason not wear school uniform. Until I am a college student now, I miss the days when I was wear uniform.

  6. I think schools should let students wear their own clothes instead of school uniforms. With wearing the same clothes, students can hardly show their personal characteristic different from others.

  7. When I was primary school student in my country I was disagree on wearing uniform.
In one hand was good because was chipper, but in the other hand gray color for children and skirt for run weren’t my favorite.
I think choose our own clothes is important to express our self freely.

  8. Hallo.I'm a freshman at Korea University in Tokyo.
I think it's good to require a uniform.
In the school I graduated from, the uniform was a symbol of the school.
If once I've worn a uniform, I can behaved as a student.
In other point,Students can be distinguished from other people when they wore uniforms.
I wont to learn English more.I hope you will advise me in the future.

  9. I think school uniform is definitely a good thing.

On one hand, It helps disciplining students and learning them how to follow rules, especially the teenagers: making sure it's clean and ready each monday morning, avoiding unappropriate school gear, covering self in a way that shows they are growing into responsible men/women,learning to take good care of something important.
On the other hand, it might give an idea on the quality of the school, on how well the school administration cares about the education of their students

Finally, it'a a good way for parents to save money and time by not having to worry everytime about clothing shopping, laundry, arguing on school day with their children about wearing appropriate clothes for school.

However, some students might not feel comfortable wearing dresses or skirts. When i was in high school we had a top and shirt school uniform. I wasn't comfortable wearing the skirt, I'd have rather choosed a dress or a pant. But other than that,I was fine.

Overall thinking, if I have to choose I'll say YES for school uniform

  10. Hello! I'm from Russia. In my opinion school uniforms is a not very gool idea.
When I was a schoolgirl I hated uniform. Because it was time of USSR. Our uniform was really ugly. It worked out brown dress and black apron for girls and blue suit for boys.

  11. in my country, students are required to wear uniforms.i think wearing uniforms helps students to focus on their study because teenagers don't need to wait time thinking what clothing they will dress. however, for high shool girl students, they must wear my traditional costume which can lead to some unconveniences when they study at high shool

  12. hi there
its my first time to write on the blog ,any way , i think the idea of waering a uniform not only in schools but also in diffrent orginaization is so (teriffic) because it gives one the identity of him so it would be easy to deal with ,but specialy school uniforms are mandatory for the sake of parents pockets ,and on the other hand for the student him self he will concentrate on the main purpose of his duty ,so i agree.

  13. hello!!!

of course there are a lot of opinions about that. Somebody thinks uniform is the best, others thinks opposite...If children wear a uniform they have no differances - they are similar - so they can't be object of jokes if they are poorer then others. Unfortunately we have these accidents...

But don't u think that they wear similar clothers every day!Every day the similar!I think its a little boring...

So there are a lot of adventages and disadventages. I can't judge, but as for me - I would like to wear clothers I want!

  14. I think that it isn't necessary to use different clothes. People should use uniforms because it's more cheaper than other clothes, and there won't be fashion girls to show their idiot clothes.

  15. It depends! For a elementary school or junior high school student, uniform is quite necessary, otherwise students from poor family can easily be the object of joking if they have to wear nonfashionable or worn-out clothes. For a university students, they can freely express their personalities and universities have no rights to decide what they should wear then.

    ReplyDelete
  16. on my opinion. school uniform is not necessary in the school because person's body are different some are fat, some are very thin, some are dwarf or tall. so they'll be suitable to their school uniform

  17. I don't like uniforms personally because most of the time, they are not cool! But if I were students, I would like to have uniforms becasue I don't have to think about clothings everyday! I prefer to get up late than to think about what to wear.

  18. OK,OK,I am from Mexico, we I was a child our uniforms were nice,,,but in my opinion this clothes are cheaper than others, its easier to have a uniform that have many diferents clothes.....

  20. It has been a detatable issue for a long time Whether students should wear school uniforms or not . As far as I am concerned, I agree that it is a good idea for studens to wear school uniforms.
First of all, students wearing school unifomrs help parents save money.Parents love their children so they will buy different clothes to dress up theri children if they can but if the children only allow to wear school uniforms, parents know they have to obey the school rules,so they will only buy few of clothes for children who could wear on some special occasions such as for party or chrismas, etc. In a word, wearing school uniforms in school is beneficial for parents.
In addition, the most important thing is to aid students to focus their time and attention on their study. Most students like fancy clothes especially for girls, they always worry about how they look like and what they are supposed to wear; therefore they will spend a lot of time thinking these kind of meaningless questions and picking their clothes instead of their studying. If school uniforms are only allowed in school, students will quit thinking of all fancy clothes and it reduces the chance that they always compete with each other on appearace. In this way, students might choose to spend more time on study or sports events, which is good not only for the school but also for the students.
It is not doubtful that there are some disadvantages for all students to wear school uniforms.wearing unifoms could not show the various personalities of students. But I believe the advantages of wearing school uniforms overweigh its disadvatages.

  21. I think wearing school uniform has some advantages.
For example, if you wear shool uniform, you can be easily recognized that you are student, which means you can't take inappropriate behavior, for example some school rules say that you can't buy some snacks half the way of your commute or you are not allowed to smoke. The other example is that poor family might be worried about their children's clothes, but if school has a its own uniform, the family don't have to worry anout it. Also it's good for their children too. They don't have to feel inferior by wearing different clothes from wealthy family.

  22. There are both advantages and disadvantage for having a uniform in school. In my opinion, wearing or not wearing the uniform depends on many reasons for example the weather ,the level of study and also the economic reason.
On my state, I had studied in school with the uniform for 20 years. In Thailand, I think it is beeter to have uniform. There are 3 mains reasons I can suggest you How the uniform is suitable for Thai students. First of all ,as you know, there is a gab between people in the high rank like a noble and ordinary people or layman in Thailand. Wearing a uniform to school can help blending the children from different class together. They are treated in the same way at school. The second important reason is the economic reason. The uniform can help parent reduce money they spent for their kids' clothes. They can have only 3-4 uniforms for wearing the whole year of study. Also the school uniform is easy-made by the local fabric ,designed to be less expensive and suitable for the weather and activities.
The last reason is about the fashion. Having a uniform benefits a high school in this reason because when you have a uniform ,you also have the rule about how to dress to school. The well-dressed student in school is one who dress in a proper way with a little bit allowed accessories. They do have to pay attention on their study ,not on their garment. The uniform can help ease the problem about the fashion in school especially in a high school or a university that have a lot of teenagers together.
These are the reasons why I think having a uniform is better that wearing a cascual to school.

  23. In schools in India students from different families (poor/rich). If students won't ware uniform then they will dress up as per their status. In this way there would be status feeling. So uniform will remove this kind of feeling. Apart from that there are many other factors which supports uniform. So in my point view uniform is required in schools. Manas & Saidev

  24. Hi, everybody!

I'm from Brazil. And here, all (or most of) schools have their uniform - ones nice, others weird.
I agree with some mates that uniforms is important to any school. Uniforms prevent students loss time choosing clothes, show them that school is no place for fashion clothing parade: it's to study.
Uniform helps build the school identity and the unity among students.
And, the most important, Uniform show the students that they have the same rights, the same opportunities at school.

    Thanks, Ríghel

  26. Hi everybody,

Well I think that school uniforms it's a good idea, because you don't have problems to choose which clothes you'll wear every day. It's easier to identify the students to the rest of the people. I think it's good only if the school doesn't force to buy the clothes at a specific store and choose an economic wear.

  27. Our school hasn't got any uniform and I'm happy about that. I think the uniform steals the children their personality.
We wear all different clothes and here aren't any disputes about that.

On the other hand I can imagine that it is a great solution for a poor country or an area where people haven't got much money.

It is so beautiful and we proud of it very much...It made us feeling more growing up and love more than my country.

  29. Hello everybody,

In my opinion, the school uniforms are a good idea because when the children and younger wear their uniforms, they are clearly identified with their elementary school or high school. Other good reason for using the uniform, is that it helps to save money to the children's parents. In Colombia, my country, every primary and high school use two uniforms: one for ordinary classes and other for sports activities.

There are some schools that allow to their students go to the classes without uniform, however, these schools have not good reputation.

  30. I think the school uniforms is the good idea for pupils, students. Because everybody can know that who they are and what school they study. They can be allowed design their uniforms, so i think the uniforms can be very cool. And there is no comparison of fashion between all students in school. Additional, the students don't need to take a lot of time to find the trendy clothes, and their parents doesn't pay a lot of money.
Although only when i was in my elementary, i must wore uniform, but i like it. i hope that every pupils and students love it like me.

  38. I think wearing a uniform is better for students in many ways.First, of all it represents the identity of being student. They can be easily notice by everyone. Secondly, parents become beneficial because they don't need to buy lots of dresses for their kids. Moreover, parent can plan to buy books for them so they can be busy in creating ideas. In Addition student would not be killing their valuable time in dressing and being fashionable,

Right now my footsize is 48 and It's a big problem.

I remember that my shoes doesn't fit me and I didn' use to put up with my shoes, but right now a shoemaker do my shoes.

  42. Hi, My name is José, I´m colombian, I think the uniform is the image of all the schools, but many students don´t share this idea. Nowadays, the uniform is a tradition still, becuase it is more beneficit for all the parents, they don´t have to buy many clothes and spend a lot of money.

  45. Hi~ I think uniforms idea can be a bad and a great one. It can be a bad idea since it possibility the idea of social discrimination since an uniform represent a specific school who refers to a social status. In other hand, clothing itself represent in some societies the capacity of buying so, if there's no uniform, inside schools, there will be discrimination too; so, in this case, uniforms can be a good idea.
Both dimensions I'm referring to imply discrimination but in two different context: Public and Private, understanding the private as the context inside the school and the public as the relation between the student and the society in were he or she is inserted to.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hi. I think uniform idea has both sides a good and a bad one. It can be bad since uniform can lead to discrimination patterns since school itself refers to an idea of social status. Then, when you are out with your uniform, you represent an identity that determinate how others treat you (or can treat you). In other hand, clothing it self lead to discrimination since in many societies it imply a purchasing power, so if schools create an standard of clothes, the discrimination inside the school, between the students, can be lower than if uniforms doesn't exist. In this last context, uniforms can be a good idea.
In conclusion, I think the ambivalence of uniform idea refers to a discriminate between a Public and a Private dimension, understanding "public" as the contact between the student with the society and the "private" as the context inside the school.

  47. i think the parents have to teach to their son , they have a own decision since kids or child put a few ouffits and let they decide , but in the other case ( school , and some universities) is better for the impression of the others.

  48. the require from students to wear uniforms it's a good idea Because in this way
This approach achieves equality among students.
A poor student does not feel that his friends are better than him and they have what he does not have.
Mother does not suffer in finding clothes for her children at the beginning of each school year.
All students have the same appearance there is no difference.
Reduce competition among students and Cancel the idea of wearing expensive clothes just to show their friends that they have money

    ReplyDelete
  49. As to me, I think that school uniforms it's a good idea. School uniforms prevent many conflicts relating with clothes between schoolmates. Also it can help you to differ teachers from pupils.

  50. well, in my country some students use uniform, but in the hight school using casual wear, i think is better because you don't worry about cleane the uniform. if you have a lot of clothes is better than uniform.
