Suicide Prevention

In 2012, our son, Joshua, died by suicide (see joshuascottdavis.org), and we know that so many people around the world have known family or friends who have ended their lives. To provide help and open discussion, I created listening activity (Suicide Prevention). Feel to share your thoughts and comments on these questions:
  • What are some of the reasons why people consider taking their own lives?
  • What are some warning signs of suicide?
  • What are three things friends and family can do to help someone who might are thinking about suicide?

  3. The reasons why people take their own lives can be very complex, and I encourage people to take a look at my son's Web site to learn more about it:

  4. Hello.
I think I have dysthymia and I want to talk about this with somebody; but I'm afraid that people is not going to believe me and they'll think that is an excuse for not doing something like hanging out with friends, not having a couple or that kind of social thing.
Could you please tell me what should I do?

  5. We think that it is important knowing and understanding the other people's problems, because by this way we can become a better society where we don´t think just in ourselves. We must learn to help the others, thanks for giving us the chance.

We think it is important to be connected with our relatives and friends, because we don´t know the pain the other people are dealing with, it is important to listen, and act if necessary.
Everyone sometimes is in troubles, but sometimes can be worst than we think. We are so glad with you for creating this space to discuss this important fact in our society

  9. Hello.

We are Carolina and Viviana . We are from Colombia and we have two questions for you:

    * Would you like to have a different son, someone who had not suicide ideas?
    * What do you think about the things that you probably could have done for saving his life?

Thanks for sharing your story with us and we really appreciate it!

  11. Hey, congratulations for the web site!

We need to go through difficult times to learn about the big and small things that life gives us , because if we don´t appreciate those moments in a future we can have regrets of it.

    best wishes.

  13. If i could talk with Joshua, i would say to him about "colours" in his life and tell to him my opinion. If you will die it will not be your problem. It will be problem of your parents and friends. At first you must fhink about them...
And if you want to die you must remember about "people who made your life" - your MUM and DAD.

  15. Some people have embarassment to talk with other about his feelings. However, they doesn´t have embarassment to post different messages in facebook or twitter. I believe that we can post positive message about life. Also, we can post motivadors messages from people than can read it and trusth in you.

  16. Many people suicides because of friends bullying them, pressure of live,or even just a single word.If you saw someone having deep marks on any parts of their body, you need to encourage them to stop suicide.

  17. One of the things family can do to help those people who have suicidal tendencies is to let them feel you love them and accept them no matter what. And that you will always be on his side no matter what
