Cyberbullying

I've just finished my newest listening activity, and it deals with one of the most challenging topics that faces people today, specifically children: bullying or being mean to other people. Such behavior can hurt feeling, cause depression, and even lead to suicide. Give it a try and feel free to share your experiences or thoughts on this topic.

  1. Nowadays, bullyng is very common. It happens, for example, at a lot of schools, every day. I think that people should pull together to stop this big problem that is being disastrous for lots of families, kids and teenagers. As human beings, we have to respect everyone - we can't face someone whose culture, appearance or race is different and mock and insult him! We have to accept everyone and built an united world without violence and disrespect.

  2. I just finished the Cyberbullying exercise and I really liked it because the development of the activity was quite ordered. I would've extend a little bit more the pre-reading to make it more personal so that the kids can relate to the subject. I loved the Internet research because this gives the students the opportunity of get specific information by themselves.
Cyberbullying being the kind of topic that it is gives a lot of information and this can develop the conscience about this in the students. I really liked it. Thank you.

  3. Hi! My name is Adriana and I want to congratulate you on this special topic. I´ve made my students listen to the track and discuss about this important issue.Making teenagers become aware of the consequences of cyberbullying is something we all teachers should aim at.I find this page very useful and I really use it a lot. I´d like to call your attention on some little mistakes I found so that you can correct them. Hope you don´t mind. Here they are:
    3. The girl's teacher just "things"(thinks) that she needs to
    C. "The"(They) wrote some awful messages.
    C. "reading"(read) books on suicide prevention-
Helping each other makes us better people. Thanks.

I feel every our classmates around her, always criticize and said nasty comments about everything belong to her, like weight, clothes or hair. At that time, I didn't stand out for tell them about the problem of bullying. No teacher helped us, only bullied person who have to stand up for fighting for themselves.

  12. question number nine:

I met a girl at school who came from another country and my class mates teased her and then she left the school because I can´t stand to be treated badly.

I do many years try to intimidate a girl at school because I didn´t like but then we were friends.

  13. I believe that the problem of bulling has always been important, however now it has become a great problem of today's youth. Teenagers are changing when they get bullied. Cyberbullying is much worse that just 'simple' bulling, as it can be very hard for teachers and parents to detect such cases.

  14. There are many ways to be a bully and it seems that these days more and more people are becoming cyberbullies. There is a reason for that: it's easier! You don't have to face the person you're picking on and many more people have access to the mean comments, since the social networks are available for everyone to see.
This kind of behavior is very damaging to the person's self esteem, and can cause tragedies to a person's life.
Everybody should stop and think about what they are doing and also help others to understand the consequences of bullying. It's not something unimportant and should be addressed in all places like schools, community spaces and specially in the home . Carol Teixeira

  15. I think it is very important that teachers give space for reflection in the classes to discuss these issues and encourage in students the responsible use of social networks and the internet. But we must not forget to add to the families who have the greatest responsibility in training students in values.

  16. Hi My name is Sankit and i found the topic of cyberbullying very interesting and necessary topic to be discussed as one of the primary problem of today's modern society. Its a basic problem faced by many people, either at school or at work, which should be sort out by one or other means. In urban cities, the parents are generally busy with their own work and sometimes they can't give attention to their child's problems unknowingly. So to solve this problem according to me, school should aware to parents first about the bullying issue if there child is facing any, into the parents meeting at school. In offices also, we can make such this type of arrangement. We all should make 'bullying' point as a current debate issue to be discussed at every level in family/offices/school/colleges, so that awareness in people will increase about the sensitivity and impact of the topic.

    1. 1 bullying and cyberbullying are different in that the bullying is in a physical space and in person cyberbullying is through the new tegnolias such as smart phones the internet computers tablets etc and if it increases harassment in this modality since all day 24/7 are using their tegnological devices

2 causes are depression and stress can lead to suicide

3 Hide what you are doing on the computer if we get close
Receive calls or text messages to the mobile that make you nervous.

Sudden mood swings when looking at mobile, email, chats, social networks, etc.

It does not explain anything you do while you are using the internet, you do not share it with the family.

It is easily frightening if we tell you to call it, or have messages.

It is altered if we enter without warning to your room while you are using the mobile or computer, etc.

4 False accusation: Most stalkers try to damage the reputation of the victim by manipulating people against him.
Publication of false information about victims on websites. You can create your own websites, social networking pages (Facebook pages), blogs or fotologs for this purpose. While the forum where you are staying is not removed, you can perpetuate harassment for months or years. And even if the web is deleted, "everything that is published on the Internet stays in the network".
Collecting information about the victim: Cyber-survivors can spy on the victim's friends, family, and co-workers to obtain personal information. In this way they know the result of the defamatory mails, and find out which are the most credible rumors of those who do not believe any results.

5 being very well informed about the management of social networks and new technologies and managing the necessary privacy is paramount

6 in the personal bullying are the children more prone to do it but in the cyber are the girls

7 if they are more prone because they do not support the precaution of harassment and believe that the best solution is to end their life

    2. I believe that the stage of my life where bullying became more noticeable was in school because I was a child and the consequences of the acts were not clearly clear that I met many children who were bullying and also those who were bullied one of them was george and although I do not like to say it I was one of those who bothered and I really did not understand the damage it caused and how it can affect the lives of other people so one day I find out that he did not want to go back to school and it was my fault and some of my colleagues and this did not make me feel good I understood that I was doing something wrong and from that moment I wanted to change it I am very canson still and funny but I know when I should stop also emepce to see with other eyes the people who suffer this type of harassment and I like to open my friendship and I do not seek to be their best friend but if they know that there are many people who are willing to greet them ask them how they are willing to remind them that they are not invisible

  18. a) the main difference between cyberbullying and bullying is that in the second there is no physical aggression, but that the persecution and the damage is done without physical presence of victim and aggressor. Violence and prejudice always occur in a psychological way.
    b) the immediacy and scope of the Internet make "aggressions" simple (based on a supposed anonymity and lack of perception of the harm caused by not seeing the victim) and, at the same time, have potential effects devastating.
the immediacy and scope of the Internet make "aggressions" simple (based on a supposed anonymity and lack of perception of the harm caused by not seeing the victim) and, at the same time, have potential effects devastating.

    c) Changes in school habits: Has your child's grades dropped this assessment? Are they stopping exams unexpectedly? "They may not be so good when they do their homework," Rosen notes. This is a sign that something is not right or that there is something, or someone, that might upset your child.
Lack of sleep or too many hours in bed: "You may not get enough sleep or do not want to go to school," says Anne Collier, co-director of ConnectSafely, a website for parents, teens and educators. social websites. No one wants an abuser to face him or her. It is likely that anyone who finds himself in such a situation is worried or unable to fall asleep, or, on the contrary, feels lazy and wants to sleep more because of depression. "These are signs of peer-to-peer problems," says Collier.

Increased irritability: Does your child lose his temper more easily? Does your daughter respond brusquely to everyone? "They may be more irritable and decide they are sick all the time or do not want to sit down to eat," Rosen notes. "Basically, these are psychological problems they are facing."

Increased insecurity: harassment or cyber harassment can wreak havoc on a teen's self-esteem. "They may feel lonely or humiliated, or more insecure, and behave that way," says Collier.

    d) the comparison of photos, malicious or intentional, indirect or anonymous messages in the form of mockery
    e) It is important that you communicate with people you know, and restrict access to your personal information. Do not accept online invitations from strangers or block access to those you do not want. Be careful with the messages, photographs, videos or personal information (addresses, phone ...) that you publish and with whom you share it, since it could be used by third parties against you. If you begin to receive insulting messages or annoy you in their content, cut off any communication with that person, and inform the competent authority thereof.
    f) Yes, because children at that age are more susceptible and follow the example given by stalker children, becoming the perpetrators of bullying
    g) if because they are lacking e character and accompaniment and are mentally sensitive

  19. Hello Randall, my name's Santiago, from Dominican Republic and I really enjoy reading and keeping track of the updates posted on this site which has been very useful to those involved in learning more English. I really agree with all comments related to this topic as it is Cyberbullying and it stands to reason that this phenomenon is affected quite a few people, especially teenagers...We as parents have to be very careful and keep a close watch on our children every day as we never know what they might be hiding owing to a possible harassment.

  20. The cyberbullying is so serious as the person bullying, it's true that isn't the same, but we have to take into account that the cyberbullying can be done all time. The effecs of it can be suicide, anxious, depression or even can convert a normal person into a asocial person. The signs which adverts that a person is suffering cyberbullying are fundamentally not wanting to leave home or socialize, also the close of social accounts. The most frequently ways in which people are cyberbullied on the internet are anonymous messages and the publication of intimate, embarrassing photos.
Everyone can prevent themselves by taking a decent behavior as much in real life as in the virtual world. Girls are more cyberbullied between them, because girls are more jealous.
Of course, people who are bullied are more likely to suffer from depression or die by suicide.

  21. Cyberbullying is become way too big and serious in these modern times. Everyday, when I use my facebook I receive thousands of negative comments on a post, an picture or a video from a kid needs our help.
But there was one story about this issue that I feel very sad and anxious about. About 2 months ago, there was a woman who is trying to sell her clothes to help her child to go to school. But the sad thing was, her face was very unnatural and people started to complain and even swear at her. Eventually, she cried at the stream and blocked her account afterwards.
Cyberbullying are way too big now and we should found a solution to this problem.
