Predicting the Future: Better, Worse, or About the Same

Right now, there is a great amount of uncertainty about where our future is taking us, particularly with regards to our financial situation and even world peace. So, if you could look into a crystal ball and predict your own future, do you think you will be better off financially and happier in 10 years from now, about the same, or in worse condition than you are now? Please explain your feelings.

  1. Hi. My name is Galina. In times of crisis some people find new solutions and learn how to get by, but others break down and live with theire hands down blaming the economic situation. I believe in progress and self-improving, better future for all of us. So, if you are strong, fast-learning, hardworking and ambitious, crisis is not going to be an obstacle for you. Good luck to you all.

  2. I think we're now living in a century when people have started to think about things in general from a different perspective. There was a significant change of mindset which led us to think about future happennings taking into account their unpredictability, dynamism and their own peculiar way of self-organizing. Therefore, it's really hard to adopt a pragmatic/positivist way of dealing with things which are very complex in their very nature - such as the current financial situation. Although some people say that this financial downturn is part of a cyclical pattern, why then nobody foresaw what was going to happen? Why did it take everybody by surprise? Today more than ever Chaos Complexity Theory has been playing an important role into the way we study the once so called "Hard Science".
As to myself, I don't have the slightest idea what my future will be like - I don't want to get my hopes up too high but I also don't want to be a pessimist. I'd rather think about what I'm doing now which may have some sort of impact on my possible future life than think about the future exclusively.

  3. How changed our world been by environment, we can make ourselves to be stronger to face all any things. Improving skills in live, however luckiness couldn’t always bring everyone, even though you work hard in any way. It is the best important to keep a peace state of mind, anyway poor or rich, sad or happy, we should accept bravely.

  4. I abosutely feel optimistic about the world future as the global economy is improving and becomes healthier. There are postive signs over the recovery of developed countries as a result of non-stop governmental and residental efforts. Regarding the recent conflicts, I believe that the related sides will have the same voice over the issues, and the world peace will remain stable.

  5. Well, for me, I hope in ten years more I will be better than now. Actually I have everything that I need for live and more than that, but I just finish my carreer, and is hard when you start to looking for a job....especially in a money crisis...I hope to make my dream true...I want to work in ACNUR, and made this messy world better than now.

  6. Life in the World will be never change. From thousand years to date, problems and conflicts have been coming to us in different forms. Be brave to face any unexpected dangers which might come to you soon. Prepare yourself. Do not dwell in the past, do not worry about the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.

  7. While it is true that we all are living in difficult times and life consists of ups and downs, I feel very optimistic about my future. I’m a very positive person and I always like to think that, when things don’t happen to you, it is because better things are coming your way. However, I don’t sit down and cross my arms waiting for them to happen. I’m always planning my next move. I have seen that, when a door closes at you, several ones open.

  8. Hi, I'm George from Canada. In todays fast evolving world ten years is probably the same as a century long ago. Ten years ago I think I was learning different programs on the computer that i don't use anymore, and was ESL-Lab up and running then? I think it was but was perhaps just a baby. It certainly didn't have this cool blog! Not sure where I'll be in 10, but I hope things improve.

  9. I think everyone has one's own past, lives one's own present and dreams one's own future. In my opinion, thanks to past,we have the present;so we reaaly need to respect our past and store it although it's bad or good.If the past is dark we must get on life more brighter and opposite,If we have a happy past, we need to make more progresses to make life happier not only for yourself but also for people you love.If we have a solid foundation, you'll be successful or enven you just need a belief in present and tommorow.I think when you an do it,you don't need to predict anything. But sometimes you must be cautious to things that will happen.Totally ,I think the best is thinking about past to summarize for the present and thinking about present for the future is much better than predicting the future negatively or impossibly.
    Thanks for reading.
I hope you can check my mistakes and thanks again.
